Bragozzi - Caorle
The bragozzo is of course the fishing boat adriatica symbol of Chioggia and its traditions. Widespread in other maritime dell'Alto Adriatico (Caorle, Grado, Marano) as it was to shrink the domestic fishery in the lagoons as a result of the progressive work of cleaning up the valleys and the young fishermen turned their activities to the sea.
Its construction dates from the sea by boat to the second half of the 700 in place of the biggest and most expensive Tartane and had substantial development after the Austrian Royal Decree of 6 May 1838, supported by Istria, which had been issued to ban fishing with nets to fund or train because of destructive fishing and the continuity of the species marina.Il bragozzo, thanks to the flat bottom, was on display particularly suitable for fishing in depths as low as South Adriatic coast of Italy.
The spread of bragozzo against the Tartana may also be motivated by the fact that many small owners had abandoned the fishing activities for other land more secure and profitable and that an exit from Tartana squero cost three times a bragozzo: 7.000 lira against the 2300 of 1892.
These circumstances, which as mentioned above justify the huge development of bragozzo, also led to the shattering of the property and to create a new class of small owners concerned, if not forced, to a type of family because of the vessel, a Unlike Tartana requiring eight crew, could be governed by only three operators.
Length between 36 and 40 feet (12.60 meters -14) hundreds of these boats sailed the length and breadth of the Adriatic until the'40s when it began to be replaced by motor boats.
